My Students

Help build the bridge of acceptance by creating a sense of family in our classroom!

The students you will be helping are third graders in rural Missouri.

They come from very different backgrounds. So when they come into our room they are usually hesitant working with one another. Our school houses first through fourth grade with roughly about 300 students. They are eager to learn, crave hands-on learning projects, and will become our future. The goal is to provide them with tables to create a sense of unity amongst themselves. Where desks tend to create a personal ownership. Tables will create a family network where students will want to work together to create a team-based community. This community will be interchangeable throughout the year without having students pushing desks, dumping desks, and yelling at each other.

My Project

Imagine walking into your classroom as a child. What do you see? Rows of desks, students working quietly at their seat, while the teacher taught a small group in one corner of the room. Now imagine walking into a classroom where you see groups of children, working together, collaborating amongst their table with the teacher involved in their learning as a class. This is what I am trying to implement in my classroom. Groups or families of children working together as one to help each other in hands-on learning projects that create a sense of unity. No longer looking at backgrounds or which part of town you came from, but as a learning partner in our classroom. When they walk in the room they remove their armor from their home life. Once in my room children will hopefully take on the role of a member of a family where everyone has a say in what we are learning and creating.

These children do too! Many of them that are struggling as learners feel alone or insecure about being alone and not a part of a group or family. By providing tables these children will have a sense of team work, collaboration,and family.
