Journals! Journals! Journals! Journals Everywhere

My students need 120 writing, reading, math, and science journals to write and respond to lessons being taught in the classroom.

My Students

Students need to understand what they are learning about the subjects that are taught. Journals can be used to accomplish this goal. Students would be able to use them to write about their understanding of the lessons that have been taught, while at the same time improving their writing skills.

Most of my students come from low income families who have a hard time providing their children with the supplies that the teacher often request during the school year.

Journals is one of the supplies listed on the school supply list, however only a few students bring them to school. Because journals are used daily in the class room, we need them even for those whose parents cannot afford to buy them for their children. This is why I am asking for your assistance to help supply all of my students with the journals that they will be using the entire school year.

My Project

Having journals in the classroom will help my students to develop and enhance their writing skills. They will be able to write about the subjects that are taught in the classroom daily. This would include telling what they think about the lesson, identifying their likes and dislikes, what they have learned, or what they would do differently. In addition, I would be able to use the journals to check students’ progress and to give students feedback on their work in progress. While students are writing in their journals they would be able improve and develop their writing skills as they would often have the opportunity to go back and refer to something that they have written in their journals for future and later lessons.

My students will benefit from having journals in many ways: they will be able to use them to respond to literature, they can be used as a learning log, they can even help students to improve their writing, and they will allow the teacher to assess student’s knowledge of the subjects that are taught.

Therefore, having journals will impact my students so that they are able to write and reflect about the different subjects, while at the same time enhancing and developing their writing skills.
