My Students

Do you remember what it is like to find that perfect book and eagerly devour it only to be sad that it has finally ended? My students are on the path to finding their own favorites. They are eager to read, but they do not have many books available to them outside of school.

I teach in an urban school with a 95% poverty rate.

A lack of resources has not dampened my students' desire to read and to learn. Because I believe it is essential to a child's development to have books in the home, I have spent the past 7 years collecting books and organizing a classroom library for their personal use. Every student takes pride in maintaining our library and eagerly await new additions.

My Project

While my students enjoy finding that perfect book, a lack of bookshelves makes it impossible to keep all of the books organized for student use. Our school is not able to afford bookshelves for our classrooms. As a result, I have to store our books in milk crates and only have a certain number of books available for check out at a time.

My students are bright and eager boys and girls who deserve to have a plethora of reading material available to them.

The book carts will allow me to organize the books we have and keep all of them available for the students. The pillows will allow the students to relax and enjoy the books they have chosen during our reading time. My students love to read. Please help them enjoy the library I have worked so hard to build by providing the necessary shelving.
