My Students

Have you ever seen yourself on video? Once you have, you tend to change some of your mannerisms and the way you talk. I want my students to be able to see themselves on TV so that they can learn from the many smart things they are doing and learn to eliminate some of the negative things.

I teach 23 amazing 3rd graders in a Title 1 School.

We have over 55% of our students living in poverty. In many cases they go home to empty homes because parents are working two jobs just to pay the bills. They lack the typical resources that many of us take for granted.

My Project

I model lessons and proper behavior to my students all of the time. But I'm not able to record their partner and group work. They would love to be movie stars and I would gladly share their videos with other teachers to show them their smart work. By videotaping my students they will be able to watch themselves working and can assess themselves using our class-made rubrics. This is a technique that has been shown to increase positive student behavior and student work.

If you buy us a camcorder, my students will work harder to learn the strategies and skills I am teaching them because they're going to want to show how smart they are to both their peers and parents.

They will self-assess themselves and talk about the many positive things they see and the few negatives that they need to still work on. They will become stronger students and their knowledge will increase greatly.
