My Students

Do you remember when you were in First Grade? Do you remember how exciting it was when you picked up a book and read it for the first time? I get to experience this over and over every year with my students. I need more quality books in my classroom to continue to see the light bulbs go on!

Every year I have the opportunity to have 20-25 eager children in my class.

My upcoming class will have about 23 children. In order for these children to succeed with reading, they need to have quality books in their hands. With these books I know they will become life-long readers!

My Project

We are building on a research-based literacy program called the Daily Five. To make the program work, we need children to have books on various levels. Each child will have the opportunity to read independently and with a buddy each day during workshop. The books I am requesting are already leveled and the checkout system and shelving will make it easy for youngsters to borrow and return their books weekly. As this program grows and more books are obtained, I hope to extend this to a home check out system also.

When I do something for my classroom, I put 100% into it.

This program is very important to help these children want to learn to read. It will allow students who do not have books at home the ability to take books home to read with their families. Most of all, students will be given multiple opportunities throughout the school day to select books on their level and enjoy reading. Children who have books read.
