This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How do you entice high school students into their library? Host a Game Tournament!!! Teens love challenges and games and cookies!!!! Once they have entered the library, then we can tempt them with books. But we have to hook them first and find a way to encourage them inside first!!!

I am the school librarian at a gigantic urban high school in California and my mission is to encourage as many of our 3,000+ students into the library as often as possible.

At lunch time, many of our students seem to aimlessly stumble around campus with nothing productive to do. And, unfortunately, as you can imagine, this leads many of our students into mischief. Moreover, a huge percentage of our students never set foot into the library on their own.

My Project

One activity that seems to draw students into the library is games. Therefore, I want to host monthly (or weekly?) game tournaments where students can challenge their friends and meet new classmates. At the same time, our students will be utilizing their free time meaningfully as they exercise their brains, their social skills, their creativity. And it will introduce many of them to their library.

So, won't you help me facilitate game tournaments to entice students to use their library, to manage their time constructively, to keep sharpening their academic faculties and interpersonal strategies, and to just have fun in the library!!!!!!!

I want to teach our students that hanging out in a library can be a rollicking good time!!!!
