My Students

Help our students learn the importance of recycling! Right now, our school has NO recycling plan! In a school of 30+ teachers, that's a lot of waste!

We are a school of about 600 students in Indiana with a very high percentage of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch.

The school is located in a low socio-economic area with many transient students. Our school is diverse and has many different kinds of learners.

My Project

My students need two recycling bins and a cart for collecting recycled items throughout the school. With a rolling cart and large collection bins, the Student Council members will be able to go around to each classroom weekly to collect recycled materials. This will teach them to care for their environment and become better citizens. Having the students be responsible for the recycling initiative will make the cause more important to them and will make them more likely to support recycling at home and in their community.

It is time that students at our school learn the importance of recycling!

Having bins in each classroom and doing weekly collections will help make the students more aware of how much paper they are actually using throughout the week. Then we can begin to focus on the other important steps of the process: reduce and reuse!
