My Students

"There is an intimate and necessary relation between the processes of actual experience and education" is a statement spoken by John Dewey,a Psychologist and educational reformer, that has been verified by research.

My four Physical Science classrooms are composed of 11th and 12th grade students.

These students come from diverse social backgrounds and low income households. They are selected to attend the school by their past academic performance, being this a school of choice. The students are focused and understand the correlation between quality of life and education.

My Project

The proposed project involves the objectives of exposing students to career options in chemical engineering, evaluating manual dexterity, applying prior knowledge and concepts in the scientific method, organization and observation skills, and the importance of documentation. The activity will challenge students in understanding the difference between physical and chemical changes by observing how iron changes chemically to form rust. To implement the project necessary equipment requested include, 3 ring support stands, 100ml and 250ml beakers and test tubes with stoppers.

The project will motivate and engage students in critical thinking and in understanding the concept of how environmental factors can cause elements to undergo chemical changes.

This concept is critical in innovations of space and surgical technology, as well as,conservation of natural resources. By supporting this project not only will you be inspiring our future scientific minds, but you will also be providing the most valuable experience of all - learning.
