In the Jungle, the Mighty Jungle Everything Glows at Night!

My students need the paint,canvases, and eyes to create their art works for an awesome glow in the dark jungle; a K-12 exhibition.

My Students

We all remember an experience as a child that automatically got collective gasps, followed with uhhhs and ahhhs. Well that is exactly the reaction we hope to inspire as we transform a room in our school into a glow-in-the-dark jungle filled with student-created fantastic flora and fauna.

The school is a public, charter, K-12 research school located on the edge of a capital city.

The students come from a surrounding eight county area that is largely rural farm land and forest. The school purposefully attracts a socio economic mix to mirror the state's population. Each year the art department strives to involve all students K-12 in a school-wide experience. This year we will create this jungle exhibition of children's art. The entire 1600+ members of the student body will be invited and encouraged to tour the exhibit. In addition we will invite other local schools in our city to visit.

My Project

These resources will help create a magical exhibition for, and by, our students. We have tested this process on a much smaller level this past year. The art department faculty decided it would be great to design an in-school field trip where all of our students participated in a variety of ways and to have the students experience the individual pride one has when they see their work as part of a much larger project. We will transform a school space into a full black light, glow-in-the-dark jungle and we will invite the entire school (parents, students, faculty, staff, and administration) to come and join in the wonder of our creation. In addition to learning new skills, this creates pride, excitement, wonder, and lasting memories for all involved. We are always looking for ways to bring our entire school community together for a shared experience. "In the Jungle, the mighty Jungle" we will share that wonder and fulfillment together in a magical world of our own creation!

In a time where we text, channel surf, and multitask, it is so important to stop and spend some time creating and working together on a major project.

This project will create a glowing jungle that will bring joy to all involved. It is rare that we have the opportunity to bring our entire K-12 school together for an event for its pure beauty and wonder.
