My Students

Did you know that boys learn best when they are provided with lots of visual stimulation? Writing on the chalkboard just does not cut it in the age of video games!

I work at an all-boys charter school.

My scholars are hard-working, energetic, intelligent boys, who love to learn and play together. Teaching at a school that serves primarily African-American boys, I try my best to tailor my instruction to the ways that they learn best. That means plenty of non-fiction reading, ample time for movement, and noise during the day, and activities that build friendships and teamwork. Research indicates that boys are much more visual than girls. When my students leave school for the day, many of them spend part of their evening on the computer, playing video games, or watching television. I would like to meet their needs by providing them vivid visuals to accompany lessons throughout the day.

My Project

With the projector, we would be able to show pictures, video clips, PowerPoint slide shows, games, and presentations to enhance the learning in the classroom. With the addition of the document camera, we can display and discuss student writing and work; share pictures, diagrams, text from books, make science, and math demonstrations visible to the entire class.

Three fourth grade teachers and a science teacher would share this projector and document camera between our classrooms to provide visually stimulating lessons to all of our boys throughout the 188 days of school this year.

Engaged boys are boys who are learning. Help our classes learn every minute of every day!
