My Students

Do you remember being in school and trying to fit all of your stuff into your desk? Impossible! As the years have gone on, students have not gotten bigger desks, but they have gotten more stuff!

I teach 30 students in a very low socioeconomic school.

Things that go home with students tend to come back very dirty and torn up due to the conditions of the home, and therefore we ask that all materials stay at school. Students put all of their effort into work, and it tears them apart when their work gets destroyed in a cram packed desk. Students try their hardest to be organized, but find it difficult when they have so much to fit into such small spaces.

My Project

I am requesting two shelves that store 3-ring binders. I have all of my students create a portfolio in a 3-ring binder, but we have no place to store them. Some items in the portfolio are items that are completed as class work and others are independent projects. All of the work that goes into the portfolios showcase the students' best work. With these bookshelves students will be able to keep their portfolios in great condition so that at the end of the year they can be proud of their appearance as well as the work that is inside of them.

Donations to this project will help increase students' pride in their work.

These students do not have much at home to be proud of and they need to feel pride in their school work to give them the confidence and assurance that they can succeed and do great things.
