My Students

My students lack the ability to speak in complete sentences. Puppets allow them the freedom to talk in character and practice these skills.

I teach in one of the poorest districts in my state.

Most of my children are on the free lunch schedule. I need to help them learn to speak using complete sentences so they can express their thoughts to others. Role playing is one of the best ways I have found to do this. Puppets allow them to talk in "puppet" talk as they retell stories we have read - especially Nursery rhymes since they are more familiar with these. I want the very best for my students. Flannel puppets allow them to recreate the original story as well as make up stories of their own.

My Project

Every child loves nursery rhymes. Flannel puppets and blocks will allow my students freedom to express themselves without being singled out. I will include these in my dramatic play and block lab to allow them to create and retell stories they have heard and have made up themselves.

Allowing my students to put their hands on flannel puppets and blocks will amaze them.

They do not have the advantage of having these items in their homes. It makes them want to come to school to experience these learning props.
