Students can not understand until they can be involved in things themselves. "X is for Xylophone" can provide involvement.

Our students come from a lower economic backgrounds and are of diverse ethnicity's.

The students attending our school are looking for the best education for the best price. We try, as an Indianapolis Charter school, to provide the students with exactly what they are looking for, quality. Our school is in it's second year of existence and our music program is in its fist. Our budget is a bit lower than typical public schools and we are always seeking creative ways to budget our spending and get the most out of every purchase. As the head of the new music program, I have already spent hours trying to work the budget of our music program to provide the students with the most diverse, creative, and experiential music education possible. "X is for Xylophone" is an attempt to further our students opportunities for the best quality music education for the best price.

My Project

"X is for Xylophone" is a project I began this year, my first year of teaching. I am starting up a first year music program at a K-7th grade Charter school. My budget is very limited, and the music textbooks have taken up almost the entire budget provided to me to start the program. We need six Glockenspiels and two Soprano Xylophones to begin Orff music projects. I was able to purchase a few instruments, such as rhythm sticks, wrist bells, wood blocks, etc., but xylophones would be a great addition to the instruments from which the students can learn. The instruments requested will provide the students of my school with the opportunity to use xylophones and glockenspiels as a learning tool, and to provide students experience with instruments they might not otherwise have the chance to enjoy. Unlike the un-pitched percussion already purchased, the xylophones and glockenspiels provide students with the opportunity to learn about music rhythmically and melodically. Any contribution to this project is greatly appreciated!

Music is an endangered subject in public schools, and because of this it is so important for the community and special programs such as donors choose to offer such great opportunities to keep it alive.

Any donations towards this growing music program can benefit the students. If we could purchase even one xylophone or glockenspiel, we will be one instrument closer to our goal of providing the students with the opportunity to be involved in their learning. Thank you for checking out our project.
