My Students

Have you seen how engaged children are when they play their video games? Let's get that going in the classroom. I want to capture students' imagination and attention by utilizing real world technology on their level.

My first grade class is from a very transient area.

They often don't have a lot at home. Most students are on free/reduced lunch. They are eager, though, to learn about the world and to have fun. They love coming to school and discovering new things about the world around them. I want to give them the best experiences I can.

My Project

I would love to have a scanner and a computer microphone in my classroom. I recently took a class that taught me how to do lots of cool things on the computer with my students. These include scanning their books and recording them while they read the story, then putting it together as a digital story...like a movie. I also want to put together a blog for my class. A weekly journal entry provided by the students to describe what we're learning. We can scan their actual writing onto the blog! As an extra bonus, I can use the microphone and scanner to create computer read alouds for those students who are emergent readers. We can scan and project student work to celebrate each others accomplishments. It's almost limitless what we can do.

Most importantly, we can do it right when we need to, not wait a day or so to use the library scanner, the only one in the building.

It's important for students, even young ones, to be exposed to and use technology. This is real world stuff that will get kids excited to come to class and do their best. To know that others will see and value their work.
