Creating a Da Vinci Trail in D.C.

My students need 39 copies of Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol".

My Students

If you're anything like me you were hooked by Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code, and then wanted to go to Europe to see all the places mentioned in the novel right? If you were, then you know how excited my students are going to be to go to Washington D.C. after they have read The Lost Symbol.

My students are enrolled in a North Carolina New Schools Project school whose goal is to reach students who meet one of the following: 1.

first generation college student 2. under represented ethnicity 3. need (can be monetary need, social need etc.) My students are high school juniors who are enrolled in a yearlong U.S. History class. They are excited to learn, and more than willing to give their opinion if only asked what it is. The classroom talk and debate in my classroom will only go up after completing this project.

My Project

I am hoping to have my students read Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol, and inspire them to want to learn more about their nation's capitol. After reading the novel, we are going to attempt our school's first over night trip to Washington D.C. to see some of the monuments and buildings mentioned in Dan Brown's novel. I would like to build our tour of our nation's capitol in the same way as Robert Langdon's (the main character in the novel) journey takes him through Washington in the book. This way the students would experience exactly what he would have experienced.

By giving my students the chance to read about Washington D.C.

in such a thrilling way, you will help to inspire them to see sites that they might never have been open to learning about before. Some of our students will never leave the county in which they grew up, but I think that by helping with this project not only are we opening their minds to a broader academic world, but hopefully we are also opening the door to the heart of our nation, Washington D.C.
