My Students

My students live in a very low socio-economic area in the state of Mississippi. Unfortunately, most of their low academic performance stems from lack of exposure. The math manipulatives in my order will give me the opportunity to bring some exposure to the classroom.

I currently teach six grade students in the subject areas of reading and math.

Our district, which is located in the state of Mississippi has restructured this upcoming school year so that our school will only have fifth and sixth grade students in the building.

My Project

As I stated earlier, my students do not have the opportunity as most students in the surrounding districts or districts within the country to be exposed to so many of the educational resources available. To ensure that my students receive as much exposure that I can control, I would like to use these math manipulatives to broaden their thinking about math. It is a goal of mine to make sure that my students understand that math is all around us in our everyday lives.

This project will have a broad impact on my students because it will give them the opportunity to learn in different ways.

In a typical classroom, a teacher will have kinesthetic, auditory, and visual learners. It is up to the teacher to provide the opportunity for all three types of learners to achieve to the best of their ability.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
