Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the excitement that you experienced when you first learn about a different culture in your childhood years? My students are always eager to learn about the different values and practices from countries around the world.

Our school is a public elementary school located in a low-income neighborhood in the city.

More than 90 percent of our students received free lunch in the 09-10 school year, while the rest of them were eligible for lunch for reduced fare. Our students appreciate the opportunity for education and have always been excited to learn about something new. But due the financial difficulties that the school and their families have been facing, the resources for our students' learning process are very scarce.

My Project

In the 2010-11 school year, Our third and fourth grade students will take the "culture adventure" to China, one of the countries with the oldest civilization in human history. With the books listed below, our students will be able to read about the ancient and modern Chinese culture from different angles and perspectives. We will learn from reading, discussion, compare and contrast, as well as performing surveys and researches. While most of our students are from Hispanic and African American background, this "culture adventure" will be an eye-opening project which introduces them to the bigger world. As their teacher, I can never forget the excitement that flashes in their eyes when the students learn about something totally different in the past "culture adventure" projects.

Our students may never be able to afford an airline ticket to China, but they have always been passionate in learning about this great, and sometimes mysterious (as to many of them) civilization in the Far East.

With your gracious act, our students will be able to go further in our "culture adventure" as well as in the rest of their life. Please donate to this project! Thank you very much for your support!
