This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Character counts! It's not enough to be a talented athlete. When you are finished with your eligibility, you need much more to sustain a successful and fulfilling life. I feel that it is important to coach kids in life, not just fundamentals!

We are a low/middle class school in a huge district in Texas.

In this era of kids "picking" schools for their sports, we pride ourselves on not "recruiting" our athletes. Instead, we take the kids that live in our attendance zone and try to make them the best that they can be regardless of parental involvement, money, or experience. We give every student athlete an opportunity to be successful in the game of life.

My Project

Unfortunately, I have found that more and more students are coming to us with a sense of entitlement and a lack of established discipline which makes them think that they can do whatever they want without consequence. The books that I've requested would enable us to do a book study to help remind students of the principles that are important for success in life: integrity, honesty, hard work, etc. This will give us a framework for our athletic work, and it will hopefully teach them lessons that will reach beyond the field.

My job is to make these girls better people.

I strongly feel that this will give us the opportunity to do just that! The lessons that they learn in this impressionable stage of their lives will set the tone for their futures. Please help me coach their character! Thanks!
