Help Me Inspire Good Writers

My students need 16 picture books for our writing workshop unit on memoirs.

My Students

How can students become better writers if they aren't exposed to excellent writing? Well, they can't! I recently attended a workshop conducted by Katie Wood Ray. I was exposed to several great picture books that are a MUST for any 3rd grade classroom.

I teach in an area where children aren't necessarily exposed to good writing on a daily basis.

Therefore, I need to expose them to well-written books as often as possible. There are so many days in the year and SO many books to purchase that it would be too expensive to buy all of them on my own. I do purchase a lot with my own money since we only get $100 a year to spend on supplies for our classroom. But there are still so many we need.

My Project

My students LOVE to be read to and are eager to listen to books that are written well. The books that I am requesting are memoirs that will help inspire my students to write their own memoirs. This will be a large focus in my classroom as the students learn to find their voice in writing. It also will expose the children to new vocabulary, vivid descriptions, provoking leads, and thoughtful illustration as part of our writing curriculum. In turn, they will begin to use these elements in their own writing.

Your donation will allow my students to become better writers, which is crucial in their ability to succeed.
