My Students

Do you remember being part of a school band or orchestra? If you play a low instrument like tuba, or bass I bet you also remember your instrument being "older than time"! My basses are about 60 years old and the cases and bows have literally deteriorated over time and fallen apart.

My students are inner-city kids with a high level of poverty.

Many of them face challenges just to get to school in the morning. Orchestra is a place where they can learn and escape all of the other problems in their day. They are so excited to play every week and learn new things with their instruments. This can be a way to keep a lot of my students in school and help them continue to be successful in life.

My Project

We would love to take our orchestra on field trips to competitions, solo festivals, and community performances. However, since our basses do not have adequate cases to protect them from the elements, our trips have been very limited. These trips are what motivate my students to continue to practice and grow on their instruments so that they can achieve higher ranks and scores. They also love to give back to the community and perform around town.

With your help we can give students the opportunity to really shine through music!

By providing the new cases, bows and rosin, we can open doors through exposure to the arts. We can also help foster a positive relationship with our community by giving performances around town.
