My Students

21st Century Education!!! What does it mean for a science class? Hands-on lab, investigation, creativity, increased interest by embedding technology and facilitate student to learn.

I will have 6, 7 and 8th grade gifted/high achiever kids.

My class will be the first science class they will have that has technology embedded in the curriculum (Promethean board, individual laptops, projector, document/video camera). I plan on igniting their interest on every topic by using my tech instrument efficiently and will allow them to discover their talent by allowing them to investigate topics of interest that are correlated to the benchmark we're learning. My class will be a student driven class and I will be facilitating their learning process by using multiple intelligence strategies and creating a constructivism classroom. Several projects regarding current events will be completed and I will gear their interest toward environmental type of research. Their final products will be displayed and can be in the form of iMovie, panel discussion, 3-D model, PowerPoint, skit, research paper, advertisement... they will have choices. Never a dull moment in my class-Science Rule

My Project

With the lab safety materials, gloves, aprons, and goggles, no more will I have to switch a student conducted lab to a teacher demonstration due to lack of proper safety attire. The Clorox wipes are great to clean up after a lab. The USB, CD-R and DVD-R will be used to share multi-media files that they will create and/or need for their product (iMovie, panel discussion, 3-D model, PowerPoint, skit, research paper, advertisement, blogs, website etc.). Living in the technology time, they will have to rely on technology greatly for submitting work, and investigating/proving their hypothesis. Since the kids are gifted/high achievers, this teaching style and tech environment will do nothing but motivate them and keep them learning to the point they will be challenging my knowledge on particular topic on which they will become expert in. This is where activities such as debate and panel discussion will be used to share such knowledge with others (staff and community included).

"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire" (by William Y.) and beware I will need a multitude of fire extinguishers for my next "DonorsChoose" request.

I plan on training my kids to learn to learn. I will introduce them to something NEW, they will make hypothesis/prediction, they will research it using their prior knowledge, then they will have to test it or come up with a new theory to challenge the one introduce to them.
