My Students

"Writing Time!" "Again, UGH! I really don't like to write." These are words a teacher never wants to hear. For my students getting them to write is like pulling teeth. I want them to enjoy and look forward to writing, not dread it.

The third grade students at our school have the desire to learn, but they are used to a world filled with video games and music videos.

They do not have many resources at home to learn with, so the school day must be filled with non-stop learning and fun. Many of the students are faced with challenges outside of the school, so we want the school to be a safe haven where learning is encouraged and loved.

My Project

What better way to encourage a love for writing, then by reading books by some well known authors. Reading books to get ideas and to jump start the imagination is a great way to get ideas for a story. With these books, I will be able to compliment our current writing series. For every lesson taught a different book is used to help the children become better writers. We will read books by Tomi DePalo, Kevin Henkes and other famous authors. These books will teach the students how to write non-fiction, poetry, fiction, and fantasy to name a few. We do not have the funds necessary to purchase the books to go with the writing series. These books will not only touch my class of 20 students but all 110 third graders!

I want our students to love writing and reading.

I do not know a better way to inspire their writing by then reading! When we receive these trade books, our students will have a complete writing series that will inspire and teach them to be fantastic writers!
