Time Is A Tickin'! Help My Students Learn How To Tell Time!

My students need individual clocks and two large classroom clocks in order to help them learn to tell time!

My Students

It's that time again! With the new school year quickly approaching, my students and I are currently in need of several teaching and learning tools that will help our classroom tell time early on in the semester!

My students are a dynamic group of future animal trainers, policemen, lawyers, doctors, teachers, chefs, "mermaids", and "Batmen" who will be starting kindergarten in the fall.

Unlike most traditional schools, my students have two teachers (one for math, and one for literacy) at our charter school, and I have the privilege of seeing ALL 120 kindergarteners in our classes as a math teacher throughout the day! My students come from low-income and under-resourced neighborhoods, and for most, kindergarten will be the first time they will be in a school setting. As such, making sure that their first school experiences are warm and filled with hands-on, fun, and mind-stretching (!) activities and lessons is an important driving force for me as a teacher this year.

My Project

Our "telling time " unit will be one of the first few units we cover at the beginning of the school year. Having large demonstration clocks will not only capture the students' attention, but will more thoroughly show the process of how a clock's hands move versus simply watching a clock on the wall. The 36 individual student clocks I am requesting will ensure that my students have an instrument that they can also personally practice with in telling time to the hour and half hour. These individual clocks will be extremely useful in aiding my tactile and visual learners and will also provide a more fun alternative than watching the teacher or answering worksheet questions! With these tools, I am confident that my students will be able to master our time unit as well as EXCEED the expectations laid out for them. In the past, I was able to witness my students telling time to every five minutes as kindergarteners, and I am confident they will do greater things with more tools!
