Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are building endurance and English Regents scores so that they will be ready for the rigors of college reading. In order to compete, they need high-impact reading that will give them a sense of accomplishment with each story completed, and a sense of wonder at the ideas they encounter.

My intelligent at-risk students aspire to completing an Associates degree while completing their high school studies.

These young people, who will be the first in their families to get college degrees, are hard workers who will pass state exams and go on to take Advanced Placement English. These persistent hard workers are striving to make the jump from the tough streets of New York to top colleges. With a little bit of help, they will be sure to achieve their dreams.

My Project

The Latino Sudden Fiction anthology will give the students dynamic reading that will catch their attention and will strengthen their endurance. They will compare stories within the anthologies in order to practice writing Regents style essays. The digestible length of the stories will help the students to build up the stamina they will need in order to tackle more difficult literature to follow. Although the stories are short, they are tightly packed and well written, incorporating the literary techniques that the students must master in order to excel on the exam.

My students need the workout that the Sudden Fiction anthologies offer.

Although they are motivated, the length of a novel can be intimidating, especially when reading it very closely for literary analysis. Sudden Fiction is the perfect bridge to help them get across the chasm that stands between them and college success.
