My Students

Building character school-wide is a challenging task. I am a school counselor looking for innovative ways to get students looking at how character in themselves is built.

We are a small, rural school who performs very well academically.

We have received honors, but we are so small our funding is small, too. We have really good students who are would benefit from this creative project. Campus-wide, we study the character pillars such as respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, fairness, and citizenship. I'm looking for many different ways to show students what these character traits mean. With the use of videos and pictures, students have a better chance of learning and remembering what they see.

My Project

We can use the camera in so many ways in my program. We can use it for still photos of our weekly character kids who are showing great character in the classrooms. We also can use it to role play various interactions to help students "see" what good character might look like. We might also use it to create a "character newscast" to report on acts of good character that have been going on in classrooms. Roving reporters could go to each class and report on these acts. The uses of a camera are endless.

Character is at the heart of any learning.

Without learning and implementing the above mentioned character pillars, students will fail. These are life lessons that must be taught along side academic skills.
