Have you ever had a bad case of the stripes? Have you ever had your mother yell at you because you just can't do anything right? Well, welcome to the world of David Shannon and his hilarious books.

I teach a first grade inclusion classroom with both special and general needs students learning together.

My students with special needs have delays in speech and language development. All of my students are enthusiastic and excited about reading. My class loves to laugh and especially loves books.

My Project

"Oh, no David don't!" and "Camilla went to school with stripes, really?!" I can just imagine these sort of reactions to reading David Shannon books. However, I don't have the books to teach an author study on David Shannon. Author studies are a great way to teach students retelling skills and also to study characters like David and Camilla. Author studies also help students as writers understand how to select a writing topic, how to write exciting story beginnings and how to write dialogue. We are in need of funding to bring David Shannon's books to our classroom and to make this author study a reality.

Young children love to laugh and love to listen to stories.

David Shannon is the perfect answer to laughter and building reading comprehension skills. Of course, we need your support to make this author study a reality. Thank in advance for helping us to giggle, to enjoy reading and to learn all about David Shannon!
