Help a New Kindergarten Teacher Buy a Classroom Rug!

My students need a new rug on which to gather for morning meeting, read alouds, and lessons.

My Students

My kindergarten students would greatly benefit from a classroom rug. This rug will provide a gathering place for the class, and the colored squares will minimize conflict by designating a spot for each child.

My students attend a diverse urban charter school.

Each day as we gather, we strive to create a supportive community of learners growing together as outstanding local and global citizens. For many of my students, kindergarten will be their first experience in a classroom setting, so I hope to make my classroom a welcoming, friendly place.

My Project

This rug is perfect for 3 reasons: 1. The squares designate a spot for each child, reducing conflict. 2. The blue border enables students to quickly transition to a circle formation (each student sits on a letter). 3. The carpet design reinforces knowledge of colors and letters. I do not have the funds to purchase a new rug for the class. Without this rug, the students will have to spend most of the day at their desks. A plain rug (without squares) leads to conflict, as students encroach on each others' space. Most of my students will be attending school for the first time, and learning how to get along with 20 other children will be a challenge! This rug will help my students learn how to share their personal space with others.

Through your generous donation, my students will have a colorful, educational gathering place where we will conduct morning meetings, listen to stories, share important news, and build classroom community.
