A Clean And Comfy Carpet To Stimulate Young Minds.

My students need a new classroom rug - the place where my Kindergartners spend more than half of their school day!

My Students

Calendar time, morning meeting, read-alouds, Science experiments... for the Kindergarten students in my classroom, the class carpet is where a lot of learning happens! Please help us have a safe, comfortable, and CLEAN learning space!

For my 25 Kindergarten students this year, and the dozens to come in the following years, an engaging and clean classroom rug is essential.

We spend more than half of our day on the carpet, and the more colorful, academically oriented, and spacious it is, the more beneficial it can be! These young minds soak in everything they see, hear, and experience. My students come from a low-income community where the environmental stimuli is less than appropriate. It is crucial that my classroom provide the furniture, decorations, and atmosphere that advances student development and progress, rather than hinders it.

My Project

As a teacher in a poverty stricken school and community, it is so important that my classroom be a warm, welcoming, comfortable, and fulfilling learning space. So much of the furniture and equipment in my classroom is old and beaten. Yet, my students, who deserve so much and get so little, never complain or ask for more. Nevertheless, the classroom carpet, which is the focal point of so much of our learning, playing, and community time, is clearly the most abused and ancient thing in the room. I know that a more academically-oriented, clean, and spacious classroom rug would help my classroom become more of the environment it should be for my hard-working, ever learning little ones.

I think about morning meeting - a part of our daily schedule in Kindergarten.

As we sit in a circle on the classroom rug, the meeting is supposed to enforce social skills like listening, sharing, and being kind. However, when the smell of mold or the tattered edges of the carpet become a distraction, I wonder how I can ever teach these skills to my Kindergartners. Help me make my classroom, and my students' lives, more comfortable, engaging, and academic.
