My Students

Have you ever squeezed onto the floor with 20 little bodies? You want them all to witness a reader's craft as you follow along word for word with your finger. The tiny print and the facial expressions on the characters. All so imperative to inferring! An ELMO can make that happen.

My students are enthusiastic, adorable, and brilliant first graders.

They love reading, writing, and math. They are eager to learn and participate in the learning process. They are visual and kinesthetic learners that need step by step guidance through teacher modeling and shared reading/writing experiences. The ELMO makes learning happen on the BIG screen which captivates and mesmerizes them all.

My Project

Lights, Camera, Action! A play by play learning camera is in the room once an ELMO appears. The ELMO takes all learning materials (not just the ones you can photocopy) and projects them onto a huge screen for all to see. As a class, we can slide our fingers across the pages of a beloved book as we participate in a read and think aloud that is projected into movie like proportions. We are able to demonstrate math games with the "real" pieces for all visual, auditory, and kinesthetic students to follow along. We can write our stories onto cheap (as in budget cuts cheap) paper as the entire class follows along with anticipated breath for the next period, capital, or spicy vocabulary word. I can provide my students visual stimulus for every benchmark and standard that I cover. In this era of techno gadgets, kids are accustomed to achieving understanding through visual stimuli. We need this glorious product of technology to bring learning to life.

An ELMO makes learning come alive in a classroom. It helps reach out to every student by allowing the teacher and peers to model strategies for the entire room to see. My students have had access to ELMOS in their specialist rooms (library and art). They are so excited when they can watch our art teacher walk them through a project step by step with 50 little eyes following along and moving their pencils in unison. It is a beautiful sight to behold. Learning!
