My Students

Viewing the night sky is impossible during the school day. The night sky is difficult to observe at home for most students, since they live in areas with many outdoor lights. Binoculars make the wonders of the sky much easier to see. We have charts to direct them; now I need a set of binoculars.

My students mostly live in suburban areas.

My school is for gifted students. I have found that many people think that gifted students can learn without proper resources. I want my students to see the real sky, not just pictures on a Web site. Light pollution has made it very difficult to see the night sky. Access to binoculars will make it much easier for students to see things that most of us never do.

My Project

My students need to observe and experience the night sky with binoculars that they can check out and take home, along with charts and instructions. After spending part of a summer volunteering at a national Park, I realized how much my students missed seeing in the night sky because of man-made lighting. Having access to binoculars will go a long way toward changing that. These binoculars have 50 mm diameter lenses and are good for viewing the night sky. They are rugged, and with proper instruction will be used by students for many years.

Very few people are not inspired when they see the wonders of the night sky through a telescope.

Binoculars will give my students a opportunity to see so much more than they can with their own eyes, and possibly gain a life long interest in Astronomy. I have seen it happen many times.
