My Students

Some of the best memories are captured on film. Help my students to capture not only their learning experience but fantastic memories that will be had during their school year.

I work in the wonderful state of Texas with a widely diverse group of kids.

Our Title 1 school has students ranging from low middle class to middle class. About 50% of our student's parents serve in the United States Military. Many of the parents are currently deployed. Not only do these students show strength while their parents are deployed, they have love and support from their fellow classmates and community who are equally as strong. All of our students have the potential to be great leaders and love and need that push provided from their teachers.

My Project

Many students are visual learners. I believe that if a child can document their learning, the ability to retain that information is endless. Not only does it provide a reminder of what was occurring, it gives a child that visual reminder. That "Ah ha! I remember what we did then." My students will use the camera to document their learning. For example, Science projects. Students will use the camera to capture the steps in their process. They will then use the printer to print pictures to create a visual to their project. The camera will also be used for many other projects such as memory keepers. I also plan to use the cameras for vocabulary words so that students can put a picture to a word with the goal of them being able to define that word thinking of that picture. By students documenting through photography, they will be able to visualize their own learning and take responsibility for that learning.

Students will be impacted by expanding the thoughts in their minds to a picture and having that picture as evidence to their learning and thought process.

Photography gives the students another outlet to express themselves in learning.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
