Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students at FHS come from a variety of backgrounds, but the one thing they all have in common is they lack access to good, fun books, written for young adults. Many of my students will be the first in their families to graduate from high school, and for some this will be their only graduation celebration.
I want to foster a love of reading for pleasure in my students, I have a wonderful school library with a lot of variety, we do not have enough copies of high interest young adults novels for students to participate in book clubs.
My Project
Research shows that access to education saves lives, reading is the fist step to being a better student. I want to foster a love of reading in my students and the only way to do that is to allow them to choose their own books. My school has an incredible library, but it does not have enough copies of high interest young adult titles for me to have students participate in book clubs. Book clubs foster a joy of reading, and joyful reading increase vocabulary, and increased vocabulary provides access to high educational skills, and a better education saves lives!
