Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember reading a book in a series and being so excited to get to the next book? My students are voraciously reading Greek myths, and would love the rest of the series.
I have taught at an inner-city school in Maryland for five years.
Most of my students are now reading on grade level, but their fluency is our next area to work on. By reading books they love over and over, their speed, accuracy, and expression will improve.
My Project
With the first donation of the Greek myths books, my students became voracious readers and researchers of anything and everything Greek myth related. They look at the back of the book and say, "I hope we can get this book" or, "We only need x,y,z and we'll have the whole series." I am requesting the rest of this series which consists of 16 books. I am also requesting a new set of Diary of a Wimpy Kid (our others are very used!), the newest 39 Clues book, and one book for myself about teaching. I am also requesting a large encyclopedia book, five atlases, and five dictionaries. This will round out a fresh library for the beginning of school!
By donating to this project, my kids will feel loved and cared for.
Secondly, we will be able to work on our fluency by repeated readings and increasing our background knowledge.
