Tech Savvy Music Students

My Students

Can you imagine trying to compose music using computer software only to be unable to hear the results because there are 25 other students listening to their music at the same time? This is what my students experience when they try to use music writing software because we do not have headphones.

Our school is in the inner city in a high poverty area.

80% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Our student body is made up of 43% African-American, 15% Hispanic, 10% Asian, and 32% white students. They love music and love to sing and play instruments. My room is full of students any time I am not teaching because the students want to spend their free time listening to music and singing and dancing. They love the instruments we do have and want to play them all the time. My older students often come in to my younger classes to help the younger students. They enjoy teaching others what they have learned."

My Project

I am requesting 35 head phones so that each students will be able to listen to their compositions without the competition of their neighbors music. I am also requesting two headphone storage units so that the head phones can be well cared for and not break from improper storage.

Headphones are not a luxury for music students who use computers but a necessity.

It has been very difficult to integrate the wonderful technology available to my students because of the lack of head phones.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
