My Students

"Tomorrow belongs to those whose who are prepared," quoted by Malcolm X. By Funding this project you will help ensure that every eighth grade student is prepared by allowing them the opportunity to save and archive their work throughout the academic 2010-2011 school year.

My students are resilient eighth graders who carry heavy baggage.

Some come from homes where they are not supported and where education is not a priority. These are children whom I have observed, and who now have a spark in their eyes. They have come to a place where they want to learn. Learning has become fun, whereas before it was very challenging. Professionals with an innovative mindset, and a passion for working with and educating young people formed our school concept. With this philosophy in mind, our school puts a focus on "Transforming Education One Student at a Time". We go beyond the traditional academic scope, by allowing students hands-on experience in the real world, and by individualizing instruction to every student's needs. In this capacity, our students participate in internships and career exploration, twice a week, with highly qualified mentors to supplement their classroom learning experience.

My Project

Direct access to a printer and flash drive will provide my students with the supplemental resources needed to increase their researching/writing skills. As an educator, I believe it is critical to provide feedback to students before assessments. I too, will benefit from the flash drive and printer. Students will receive feedback on assignments and projects in more efficient manner, in order to improve academic success for each incoming eight-grade student during the academic school year. Students will utilize the equipment to prepare for their quarterly exhibitions, and to complete independent and group multimedia projects throughout the academic school year. All the projects will be individualized and personalized according to the skills and ability level of the students.

Every eighth grader will create an electronic portfolio, which includes but is not limited to, baseline data in reading, writing, and math to take with them as they move up to the next grade levels.

Our overall students’ learning and state standardized test scores will improve because of students' ability to successfully access current data, research, and other information.
