Pay It Forward Project

My students need 20 copies of the book "Ordinary Mary's Extraordinary Deed" to send to 3rd grade classes around the country as part of a Pay It Forward project.

My Students

I want my students to know that kindness matters, and share it with others through an act of kindness. I also want them to understand the concept of paying it forward; when they are the recipient of an act of kindness, they need to know how it feels to do something nice for someone else!

My students come from primarily low income families.

We are a neighborhood school and have a teaching staff dedicated to providing for all the needs of our students. These students are the recipients of clothing, food, gifts during the holidays and are always grateful. I want them to harness their gratitude to make a difference in other people's lives.

My Project

I have requested 20 copies of the book "Ordinary Mary's Extraordinary Deed," a children's' book that illustrates the "pay it forward" concept with a story. We will mail a copy of this book, with a treat for the class and pay it forward coupons, to 20 other third grade classes around the country. With these books we will be able to continue a project that was started by one of our third grade classes last year that generated over 1,000 acts of kindness! We want to keep spreading the concepts of simple acts of kindness and paying it forward to our students and students all over the world!

This project shows my students that they can make a difference in the world!

It also spreads the concept of paying it forward to other third grade students, with the hopes that these students will become "ambassadors" for the concept. The power of the books is that they can be used over and over!
