Learning about Healthy Habits

My students need a health paperback library, a learn to brush kit, a dentist kit, a nutrition lotto set and CD read-alongs about the body to understand healthy habits like getting enough sleep and taking care of our teeth.

My Students

I currently teach a group of energetic first graders who are interested in learning about healthful habits such as going to the doctor, seeing a dentist regularly, getting enough sleep to stay healthy.

I work in an urban school district where my students come from homes where their parents maintain two jobs to provide for the family basic needs (food, shelter, clothing).

Going to the dentist or getting a physical is often a luxury for most family. Programs within the community often provide dental and other medical emergency care for the students and their families.

My Project

We need a health paper back library, a learn to brush kit, a dentist kit, a nutrition lotto set and CD read-alongs about the body to understand healthy habits like getting enough sleep and taking care of our teeth. These resources will help the students to develop an awareness of the importance of keeping the body healthy. The "hands-on" materials will provide the students with a general idea of how to prevent germs from spreading, the importance of keeping the teeth healthy and eating a balance diet to prevent illness and disease.

After the introduction to the health lessons, the students will develop an understanding that it is important to keep the body healthy, clean and fit by getting enough sleep, eating a balance meal, getting a physical, and going to the dentist regularly.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
