My Students

Give us something more interesting and relevant to read than our textbooks. Let us see the excitement of Richard Peck's writing. Many of the stories take place in our area.

My students are 8th graders growing up in a rural area of Central Illinois.

Many of them love to read and we need more materials to use for classroom reading. These books will allow us to have literature circles in each of my four reading classes all at the same time with the same books. This will allow the students more opportunities to discuss the books they are reading and make connections with their social studies topics.

My Project

The books I am requesting were written by Richard Peck who grew up in a nearby town. Many of these books share stories of small town life. The time periods that are included will compliment the students studies in their history class. The books deal with the sinking of the Titanic, the Chicago Worlds' Fair, and World War II. I believe that my students will find Peck's writing to be interesting and I hope that they will be inspired to read some of his other works.

These books will be used by my students in the 2010-2011 school year and by other students in the years to come.

The number of books in this collection will allow a whole team to read the same books at one time and when that team is done the books can be shared with the other 8th grade team. Help my students become better readers as they delve into the writing of Richard Peck!
