My Students

Were you a part of the band? Our band, like many others, is facing budget cuts while the community still holds our traditions dear to them. Our aging percussion equipment needs to be updated and tools are needed to help us keep traditions up to the standard the community is used to seeing.

We are a low income school, one of the lowest in the state of Indiana.

Most schools have percussion and students provide their own equipment but most of our students here are unable to do so. What's unique about our school is the students' work ethic. Despite their financial restrictions, I feel that students here work harder and appreciate more than students from more financially prosperous schools. The percussion section of the band is getting bigger, interest is growing, and things are really starting to appear impressive in the eyes of the community. With your help, we can continue our growth and provide a standard of excellence otherwise unattainable without financial support.

My Project

The resources included in my request are Bass Drum Mallets, Metronome/tuners, Ponchos, Tenor Drum Mallets, and Bass Drum Tone strips. The percussion section is becoming more talented as the years progress. Our current mallets are splintering and hinder the students ability to "drum roll" cleanly on our Bass Drums. With the new Bass Drum mallets, the students will be empowered to be able to execute complex rhythms and "rolls". The Bass Drum tone strips and new Bass Drum mallets will provide the community with considerably improved entertainment while students are learning more advanced playing styles. The Tuner/Metronome combos are tools that provide precision in practicing rhythms. This will benefit the entire percussion as a whole and in turn provide improved entertainment and improved playing style. Lastly, our Marching Band plays outside and sometimes we have to battle the elements. With these ponchos, the band director can rest at ease knowing our uniforms are protected.

The Marching Band is a staple of this community.

The world of instrument music is immense. Bands inspire students, parents, and the community. Donations to this request will provide students with the tools needed for excellence. This excellence will be forever felt by our community, our faculty, our students, and their memories. Band teaches students' life building skills, community awareness. Band inspires the uninspired, and much more.
