My Students

Can you imagine swimming and not improving with your speed? Through the use of a pace clock, the students can push themselves through practice sessions and increase their speed to become more efficient swimmers.

My middle school is a Blue Ribbon School.

It consists of about 725 students, 54% of which are students that receive free or reduced lunch. The student body consists of 47% male students and 53% female students. The student body is made up of 58% white students, 36% African American students, 4% Hispanic, and 1% Asian. I am a physical education teacher for the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls, as well as the swim team coach. My classes will each consist of about 25 students. A majority of swimmers this year are 7th and 8th graders. My students on the swim team will practice daily after school for hours and a pace clock and lightning alert device would greatly help with safe and productive practice sessions.

My Project

To get the most from your workout and to feel strong at the end of a competitive swim, you need to be in control of your pace. Varying your pace while training will add spice to your practice sessions and help you swim at maximum efficiency when competing. Your goal is to start comfortably and pick up speed as your race, set, or workout progresses. Many swimmers start too hard and are exhausted long before they need to be. Pacing can be best measured in the pool by a pace clock.

As well as a physical education teacher, I am a personal trainer, lifeguard, swim team coach, and a Children's Fitness Specialist.

I truly know the benefits that swimming gives to the body. If you make it possible for my students to receive this grant you will be helping to improve the students efficiency in the water, while leading to overall health and fitness.
