My Students

We have added three-year-old preschool at our school. We are excited to give these youngsters the kind of foundation they need. However, we are lacking in some materials for the most basic concepts we need to teach these children.

We are a high poverty preschool classroom in Kansas.

We have both a morning and an afternoon session. We have mostly four-year-olds on Mondays-Thursdays and mostly three-year-olds on Fridays. We are eager learners who learn best with hands-on activities.

My Project

I will use the Color Discovery Boxes, First Pegboard Set, Let's Go Fishing, and My First Sorting Bears in small groups to teach color matching and color sorting. I am looking forward to using the Big and Small Size Sorting Set and activities from the Early Language Concept Kit in a similar way to teach size relationships. The Vocabulary Skill-Building Photo Cards will be used in a whole group setting. Children will be able to look at the cards and tell me which doesn't belong, which matches, etc. Finally, the Hold-A-Ring Walking Rope will allow my preschoolers to walk together in a line to the playground and to get their milk. Walking in a line can be a hard idea for preschoolers to grasp. This walking rope will allow the children to navigate while learning about how to form and stay in a line.

The activities I have suggested will be ideal for teaching basic concepts such as size relationships and color matching to our new three-year-olds.

I enjoy making many of the materials I teach with, but these new resources will be great addition to our classroom. My preschoolers will be learning while they are playing.
