Read Alouds for Struggling Readers

My Students

Should struggling readers not experience award winning books? I have many students that read two grade levels below their age, yet they want to read harder books.

The students in my class are sweet kids who want to enjoy reading, but struggle with reading more difficult books.

When I have the opportunity, I like to record stories and help them read along so they can complete grade-level appropriate chapter books and work harder to improve their reading abilities. Our school is located in a transient area with many families experiencing financial troubles. While we have a lot of technological resources to access information, these students need some authentic interactions with books.

My Project

By receiving these books and recordings, I will be able to have groups of students listen and follow along with the literature being read to them and discuss various literacy elements. Listening to literature is an important aspect of building comprehension and fluency, and having the opportunity to listen and follow along will support reading improvement.

Your donations will give students a chance to enjoy a story that they cannot read on their own.
