My Students

"We must use time as a tool, not as a crutch." John F. Kennedy made this assertion, and it very much rings true in the school setting.

I teach students in grades six through twelve.

My students are members of a very small public school system, and our school is part of a close-knit community. A large percentage of my students come from "low income" families and may not have strong parental support at home. Alternatively, some of my students have amazing parent support and can rely on their home environment to provide assistance in any task they are faced with.

My Project

My students need 125 student planners for the upcoming school year. This past year was my first year to teach, and the most common struggle I observed among all of my students (regardless of age, content taught, ability level, or grade level) was organization. If I could provide a way for students to transfer information from the classroom to the home, it would benefit students, teachers, and parents tremendously. Students who have little support outside of school would have a personal organizational aid, and students with strong support at home would have a clear, concise way to tell their families what they are working on at school.

This project is very important to me because I know that I have highly capable and intelligent students whose grades may not always accurately reflect their abilities, due to their lack of organizational skills.
