A Walk in Our Shoes: The Stories of Students

My Students

"If there's a book you really want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it," said Toni Morrison. My students need YOU! They are struggling in life day by day. Our school is labeled as "high poverty" level school. Our resources are limited, and my students need HELP!

My classroom setting is very diverse.

From race, gender, grades, to worries, my students all have their own problems. These children come into my classroom without a care in the world about school. They are here because they have to be by law. My job, as a teacher, is to introduce them to exciting things in school. Reading and writing are the last things on these students' minds. I must make things appealing to them in order to reach them in the academic world. Please Help! With resources like these, I can make learning fun and adventurous. I can not assign writing assignments that must be typed for one reason. THESE CHILDREN DO NOT HAVE COMPUTERS. A classroom lap top will allow my students to have access to technology whenever needed. The white boards will give them something to actually have in their hands while learning.

My Project

My students will be introduced to a new way of writing with these resources. Not everyone enjoys writing, especially my students. I need the computer in order to allow the students to have access to a computer at all times. It is so hard for many of them to find a ride to the local library. They do not have computers at home. Once I have introduced the expectations of writing, I will share with my students and activity to be completed by them. Each of them will be responsible for writing in their personal journal each day. I just want them to write whatever they want or how they feel. Near the end of the given amount of journals required, they will be asked to choose one journal. The MOST important one to them! They will then begin to edit the journal entry to make it perfect. We will go through a process and then begin to type it. Once everyone has completed their final journal, I will bind all my students' journals into one book. Each student will receive a copy to show off!

The impact of these resources being funded will make a huge difference in the lives of my students.

The final copy of the journals will show these students that they can do it. It will give them something to show as proof of their accomplishments. The time and effort they will put in will be rewarded. Please help my students complete their journals. "A Walk in Our Shoes" will tell the stories of many children in the school. They will write, because all the entries will be anonymous. HELP! PLEASE
