My Students

We are capable and have the opportunity to lay a solid technological foundation for our students. All we need are the supplies.

We are a very small, PreK through 6th grade, rural, Iowa public school.

We take pride in giving all our students the individual attention each one needs. Our students love using computers and we try to incorporate technology across the academic board for all our grades. We begin computer skills in preschool and strive to make our students computer literate by 3rd grade.

My Project

Computer updates are being made all the time and as we update our computers, software compatibility becomes an issue. While it is not possible to continually update software - small budgets being the main reason - it is essential that students receive as much quality technological assistance as we can give them. Because our school is so small, we are generally able to share whatever new materials we get between grades. With this new software, students are not only becoming computer and technologically literate, they are increasing their success in mastering important core academic skills.

Research indicates that computer technology can help support learning and is especially useful in developing the higher-order skills of critical thinking, analysis, and scientific inquiry "by engaging students in authentic, complex tasks within collaborative learning contexts" (Roschelle, Pea, Hoadley, Gordin & Means, 2000).

We know this to be true from experience. We know that it is essential to the success of all our students that we are able to provide a rich technological environment.
