“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." - Dr. Seuss My students need to learn to love to read, What better way than to have books available that they want to read? Help me provide the books that my students love reading!

I teach 2nd grade at a wonderful Title One Elementary School in Northern California.

The school population are mostly from lower-middle class families who qualify for free or reduced lunch. More then fifty percent of our students are English language learners; with academic abilities ranging from Gate to special needs. Many of the children do not have exposure to books outside of the classroom; so the only time they can practice their reading skills is in the classroom. I would like to instill a love of reading for every child and would like to add to the class library looks that the students can read as well as books they want to read. The more they read the better readers they will become.

My Project

I am requesting a collection of books that the children love to read: The Magic Treehouse series, Captain Underpants series by Dav Pilkey as well as additional beginning level readers by Dav Pilkey. When we go to the library the children all head to the section of the library where they can find these books. We are only able to go to the school library one day a week and the library is used by over 20 classrooms. I would like to have a library available in the classroom so they can always have access to books that they can read and want to read. This is my second year teaching 2nd grade and have been lucky to get books donated through DonorsChoose but our library needs more books. Please help me create a class library where there are enough interesting books available for every child in my classroom. I would like my students to learn to love to read, so that reading becomes an enjoyable part of their everyday life.

Every child needs to be able to read to succeed in life.

If we had a classroom library that had the books that the children wanted to read then they would enjoy reading. The more they read the better they will become as readers and as students. Help give my students the opportunity to become the best students possible. Remember today's students are tomorrow's leaders.
