Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember when you were in the 4th grade and you had a favorite book that you just couldn't put down? I am a teacher who is moving from kindergarten to 4th grade and my students need a classroom library to excite and spark their interest

My students come from middle to lower socioeconomic families.

60% of them receive free or reduced lunches and many of them live in government subsidized apartments or low income trailer parks. Their family budgets just do not include room for good quality literature. I have been teaching kindergarten for the past 8 years and am now moving to the 4th grade and would like to be able to provide my 4th grade students with a quality classroom library that includes a variety of books and genres to choose from. Including Newberry award winning books, biographies, poetry, fiction, and nonfiction books.

My Project

The books I currently have in my kindergarten classroom library are being donated to a new kindergarten teacher so I am in desperate need of appropriate books for my 4th grade students. To meet the needs and spark the interest of all my students I am requesting a large variety of books that include a variety of reading and interest levels. The books I am requesting contain Newberry award winning books like Rascal and If You Can Reach Me, biographies of historical figures and modern celebrities such as Anne Frank, Einstein, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Ronald Reagan. I have also included several poetry books from fun poets Jack Prelutsky and the late Shel Silverstein and I have included some fictional and nonfiction books about our state which the focus of our Social Studies curriculum in 4th grade.

Once a child discovers they can travel all over the world just by opening a book there is no limit to what they can imagine and what they can do.

Walking into their 4th grade classroom they need to be surrounded by quality literature that they can get their hands on as soon as possible. Your donation can make this all possible!
