My Students

Do you remember getting your new box of crayons for a brand new school year. I do! I loved that box of 64 Crayola crayons with the built in sharpener. Not all of my students will be able to bring in all the supplies necessary for a great start to their school year.

September will mark the 12th year I will be teaching in a New York City public school.

This will be my 2nd year teaching first grade. In the 2009-2010 school year, I had 36 students in my class. Our title one school has approximately 68% free lunch. In order to build a solid foundation for my little ones, I need the right supplies to accomplish many tasks throughout their day. With budget cuts and a poor economy, I seek help for my students wherever I can find it. I want their learning experiences to be free from stress. It's not their fault they don't have the supplies.

My Project

The items I am requesting will help my students in so many ways. One way the crayons will help is by adding illustrations to my students' chosen writing piece each month. Each month the students pick one piece of writing to add beautiful illustrations to for our writing celebration. The final pieces are displayed on the hall bulletin board. A second way the items will help is by coloring in the keyword(picture) for each new letter sound they learn in a phonics/phonemic awareness program. The scissors will be used to create books and word wheels during our word study time. During the day and throughout the year, we do many activities which need crayons, markers, coloring pencils and scissors.

Help build a good foundation for my first graders.

Make the beginning of the year positive and stress free. Help build a child's self esteem by supplying them with the tools needed for learning. With your help, I will be well on my way to starting the year off on the right foot. Help Color our World!
