My Students

My goal is to use technology to create an interest in science for my first and second graders. These students are what we call in education, native digital learners. They are growing up with technology, if it is available. You can help make this 21st century technology available for my students.

The K-5 elementary students at our public school are primarily Hispanic.

Many children are unable to read, speak, or write English at their grade level. The school is in an urban, high poverty, high crime area. Students are eager to learn and have a culture that values education. A large number of parents walk their children to school each morning. Many walk their child right to their classroom. In the afternoon, dozens of parents are waiting for their child outside of the school.

My Project

The Ken-A-Vision USB digital microscope is designed for teachers and students alike; this digital microscope with a unique detachable head is ideal for the classroom or field. It has a USB connection and Applied Vision™ software, so you can magnify, capture, or modify video and still images and store them on your computer. The removable camera/magnification head has an ergonomic shape to fit snugly in your hand or into the sleek, sturdy metal base. Featuring 20x, 40x, and 100x magnifications, kena™ has USB-powered LED lighting on top and battery-powered LED lighting on the bottom for viewing specimens or slides. The unique antislip stage pad eliminates the need for stage clips. My students do not have access to microscopes much less a digital microscope that can view slides and display the image on a computer screen. With the laptop connected to a projector the entire class can benefit from the slide. With the image capture software I can preserve the image to show to other classes.

Without your help, these resources will not be available to my students.

There is no budget for UBS digital microscopes and laptops. Your individual contribution is a direct connection to my students.
