Desks in rows are neat. Desks in rows are orderly. Desks in rows are BORING!

I work with teenagers in a high-need school in rural Georgia.

Sometimes, our desk-chair combos are useful - when the students are taking standardized tests, for example. But so much of life involves cooperation and collaboration, and learning when to work on your own and when to share the load. Our desks don't fit together well, making anything beyond individual work uncomfortable and difficult.

My Project

This small activity table will be a perfect place to hold reading and writing conferences, or for students to work together on group projects. We won't have to worry about an uneven surface due to mismatched desks, or bumping our knees or feet on metal crossbars. And since we won't have to move desks around, the floor will be kept in better condition, which means that our custodians will be much happier too!

There is definitely a place in our curriculum for individual work.

But there also ought to be a place for working together. With your support, I can create just such a place for my students!
